Tech Tip: Acura A/C Compressor is Not Working

August 9, 2011

Customer Concern:
The A/C compressor on a 2005 Acura RL 3.5L is not working. The scan tool reads A/C compressor “ON” and the A/C compressor clutch relay does click.

Potential Causes:
A/C compressor clutch coil, wiring or relay

Tests/Procedures:
1. Verify there is good battery voltage on the yellow wire to the A/C compressor clutch with the A/C on. If there is good battery voltage and the compressor has a good ground, the A/C compressor clutch is faulty and will need to be replaced.

2. If there is no battery voltage on the yellow wire, then verify the A/C compressor clutch relay is good and check the yellow wire for an open or a poor connection.
