Hi, this is Eric with TechShop, and another edition of Tool Showcase.
I’ve got a treat for you today, something new from Aircat Pneumatic Tools.
This is the model 6390 Compact Needle Scaler.
Some of you might be wondering what this does and I’m going to show you in just a minute.
I have to admit I went for many years without one of these and when a tool dealer told me about them, it was like the best thing since sliced bread.
A needle scaler is designed to remove rust, scale and paint and I can tell you from experience they can be huge time savers.
This new model from Aircat features 4800 blows per minute, a 1 ¼ inch stroke and a durable steel housing in a lightweight compact design.
It really has a nice, machined look to it and a clean finish. Call me crazy, I know it’s going to get used but I like a good looking air tool.
I’ve installed the air fitting and added the prerequisite drops of oil, plus I’ve got my safety glasses and hearing protection, so let’s hook it up and check it out.
You can see how it made short work of the rust and I use these a lot on brake drums and rotors.
I also like the knurled grip; it makes it easy to hang on to.
