ALI Electronic Lift Safety Standards and Training Materials

ALI Introduces Electronic Lift Safety Standards and Training

Standards for lift operation, inspection, maintenance, service and inspection are now digital.

Lift safety advocateAutomotive Lift Institute (ALI) is offering digital versions of North American vehicle lift safety standards and training materials for the first time.

Electronic versions of ANSI/ALI ALOIM: 2020, the standard governing lift operation, inspection and maintenance, and ANSI/ALI ALIS: 2022, the standard outlining requirements for lift installation and service, are now available at autolift.org/shop alongside the new second edition Lifting It Right lift safety manual e-book. ALI, an accredited standards developer and product certification organization recognized by the International Accreditation Forum and credentialed by ANAB, the ANSI National Accreditation Board (accreditation ID# 0584), sponsors the lift safety standards and produces Lifting It Right. ANSI/ALI ALCTV:2017, the safety and performance standard covering lift design, construction, testing and validation, currently remains available only in print. ALI plans to release an electronic version the next time the standard is updated. All three standards apply to all vehicle service lifts, generally called car lifts, truck lifts or hoists.

“It should come as no surprise that lift installers, inspectors, owners and operators across the U.S., Canada, and other regions, including Australia, have been asking for ALI’s lift safety materials in a digital format,” says R.W. “Bob” O’Gorman, ALI president. “Through several years of work by ALI staff and as a result of technology advancements, we have developed a digital rights management (DRM) solution that makes it easy for our customers to access these documents virtually anywhere at any time while protecting our intellectual property and copyrights.”

The digital versions of the standards and safety manual reflect the same content and layout as their print counterparts, with the added benefit of always-on access through any device — computer, tablet or smartphone — for maximum convenience. No third-party software is necessary.

With the electronic standards and Lifting It Right e-book, customers can:

  • Access the documents immediately after purchase.
  • Make notes, highlight, underline, circle and otherwise annotate their personal copy.
  • Customize the view by increasing or decreasing magnification, choosing between dark mode and light mode or going full screen.
  •  Quickly find what they’re looking for within the document using the keyword search.

ANSI/ALI ALOIM is written primarily for employers, lift owners, and inspectors. It describes employer responsibilities regarding lift operator training, lift inspection and maintenance; covers lift inspection and repair maintenance procedures; and outlines qualifications, training and responsibilities of lift operators, lift inspectors and maintenance personnel. ANSI/ALI ALIS provides guidance to lift installers and service technicians.

Lifting It Right is the world’s best-selling car lift safety manual, with more than 4 million sold. It was completely updated and expanded for a new second edition released earlier in September.

Print editions of both standards and Lifting It Right are available from ALI member manufacturers and ALI Certified Lift Inspectors, as well as through the ALI store at autolift.org/shop/ and ALI’s Amazon store, www.amazon.com/automotiveliftinstitute. Customers seeking digital or bundled versions should visit autolift.org/shop/.
