CodeScout 700 is designed for use on all 1996-and-newer OBD-II compliant vehicles, including domestic and import cars and light trucks. The tool connects to the vehicle diagnostic port, which is usually located under the steering column, and displays generic diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) status, and supported emissions readiness monitor (I/M) status for emissions testing. The CodeScout 700 can be used to reset the check engine light when repairs are completed.

The CodeScout gives a visual indication when it is connected to an OBD-II vehicle and then identifies the problem. When the problem is corrected, the tool erases generic and manufacturer-specific DTCs.
