Tech Tip: Combat ‘Hot Spots’ with a New Flywheel
Here’s the scenario: Your customer drops off her car for a clutch replacement. As a matter of course, you have the flywheel resurfaced prior to installing the new clutch; all seems well when the customer drives away. Later that month, the customer returns, complaining of clutch chatter. The assumption might be a defective or incorrectly installed clutch, but the culprit may be that resurfaced flywheel.

Various complaints concerning the engine, transmission, clutch or noise characteristics of the vehicle have been traced to the absence or damage of the alignment dowels between the engine and transmission.
Mercedes-Benz Low-Range Light Flashes, Code P1831
If you receive customer reports on an applied vehicle of the low- range light flashing rapidly (18 times) after vehicle start with fault code P1831 (Positioner motor, position sensor or power supply is faulty) in the transfer case ECU, do not replace the transfer case motor.
Tech Tip: Installing Reman Engines and Transmissions
With new car sales down, people are keeping their vehicles longer and racking up more miles on their engines. That means there’s a growing opportunity to install a remanufactured engine in a customer’s vehicle if their original engine or transmission has reached the end of the road. Most engines will go quite a few miles with proper maintenance. But if the owner scrimps on regular fluid, oil and filter changes, neglects the coolant, never changes the spark plugs, or ignores little problems, it may lead to premature engine failure.

Tech Tip: Honda Pilot’s Compressor Clutch Has Taken Off
Owners of Honda Pilots my experience no A/C compressor clutch. The scan tool says A/C off and A/C switch off. There is no air out of the front vents, but the blower motor operates and changes speeds with the front switch. To diagnose this probrlem, ground the blue/red wire at the front blower power transistor and verify the blower motor runs on high speed.Then verify the front blower power transistor ground is good on the black wire – look for 0.05 volts or less to be OK ….
