Electronic Specialties introduces a new product, the #192 Diagnostic Relay Buddy 12/24 Automotive & Heavy Duty Relay Tester.
#192 was developed in response to the customer feedback the company received with the original Relay Buddy. Two big product improvements have been incorporated as a result.
First, this new Relay Buddy tests 24-volt relays in addition to standard 12-volt relays. This allows the testing of relays from both 12-volt automotive vehicles as well as heavy-duty vehicles with 24-volt electrical systems. Applications would also include 24-volt battery-powered equipment, such as electric scissor lifts.
Second, three diagnostic trouble codes have been programmed into the tester. If the relay fails the test, one of three diagnostic codes will flash the red LED to give indications as to the probable cause of failure. A brief description of the failure and the probable cause is printed on the backside of the Relay Buddy.
Diagnostic Relay Buddy provides an indication of the general health and functioning of the most common 4/5 Pin 12- and 24-volt relays. Relay Buddy checks the control side of the relay by applying a signal to the relay coil while it checks for proper functioning of the relay contacts.
Diagnostic Relay Buddy cycles the relay several times while loading the contacts to detect any excessive resistance. It watches for consistency in every test cycle. Relay Buddy will fail the relay, illuminate and flash the red LED if any one of the cycles proves unsuccessful during the test session.
Diagnostic Relay Buddy uses the vehicle’s battery for its power source. The test process is rather simple. Just remove the relay from the vehicle, plug it into the Relay Buddy, then press and hold the “test” button until the test cycle is completed.
Test results are displayed as:
- Green light if relay is good;
- Red light if relay is bad and will flash once, twice or three times.
The Relay Buddy comes with a one-year warranty. Literature can be obtained free by calling 800-227-1603 or download at www.esitest.com.
