Miller Electric Mfg. Co.’s (www.MillerWelds.com) new Digital Elite Series auto-darkening welding helmets offer the flexibility of using one helmet for welding, cutting and grinding. Building on the features of Miller’s popular Elite series helmet, the Digital Elite series also allows the user to quickly switch between four modes — Welding, Cutting, Grinding and X-Mode — while retaining the user’s preferences for shade, sensitivity and delay.

The X-Mode electromagnetically senses the arc, providing full protection for those instances when there is an arc present, but the sensors are obstructed. X-Mode eliminates interference from sunlight and out-of-position welding angles, such as those found in pipe welding or in obstructed or hidden-cavity welds.

Digital Elite helmets are available in three popular graphic designs: the Inferno, Stars and Stripes II and The Joker, as well as in a standard black design.

“In addition to the precise control from this new digital technology, we increased the lens performance, eliminating both interference from the sun and arc sensitivity issues while pipe welding,” states Tom Sommers, product manager, Miller Electric Mfg. Co. “The Digital Elite series performs well in low-amperage TIG applications, (5 amps and below) and on obstructed or hidden cavity welds.”

The Digital Elite Series helmets are available through welding supply distributors in the US and Canadian markets with an MSRP of $349 for the classic Black design and $379 for a graphic design. Prices will vary by distributor.

Weld, Cut, Grind by Personal Preference
Designed for professional welders demanding control and flexibility, the Digital Elite series features the precision of a digital control that allows users to set and store their shade, sensitivity and delay preferences for various applications: Welding shades 8-13, Cutting shades 5-8, Grinding shade 3, and an X-Mode shades 8-13. The X-Mode provides full protection for those instances when there is an arc present, but the sensors are obscured. X-Mode eliminates interference from sunlight and out-of-position welding angles, such as those found in pipe welding or in obstructed or hidden-cavity welds.

Still the Benchmark
Building on Miller’s popular Elite Series, the Digital Elite design features four independent arc sensors that respond in 1/20,000 of a second and comes standard with an Auto-Off feature. Weighing in at 18 oz., Elite helmets are lightweight and comfortable and come complete with five outside and two inside replacement cover lenses, a Miller-exclusive fatigue-reducing comfort cushion and helmet bag.

Miller Auto-Darkening Helmets are covered by a two-year warranty. To find your nearest distributor, or for more information on either product, visit www.MillerWelds.com.

This month’s diagnostic journey begins with a 2008 Land Rover Discovery that is taken in to a local testing facility for an emission test and fails due to a series of misfire codes.

Misfire activity is found on cylinders 2, 4, 6, 8 and 3; at first glance this series of codes implies that there may be bank 2 issues, but the cylinder 3 code throws a wrench into that mode of thought.
