Hi, this is Eric with TechShop and another edition of Tool Showcase.

Every now and then, you learn about unique tools that turn out to work so good, you just have to have them. I’ve run across a number of these over the years, and I call them problem solvers.

One of my favorites over the years has been this, an exhaust pipe cutter. The idea is really simple, it’s just like any tubing cutter, but with multiple cutting wheels throughout the chain.

It really works great, and you don’t need much room at all to use it.

Wrap the chain around the pipe, hook the end to the handle, and then with a little pressure on the handle, just work it back and forth.

I clean and lubricate it after each use and it definitely works better when it’s lubricated.

It has so many advantages; there’s no noise, no mess and no flame and you can make a cut precisely where you want it.

I use it in the shop for regular repairs or custom work, but it’s also good to throw in the toolbox if you’re looking around the salvage yard or something.

So, this is a simple tool, yet highly effective. I’ve used it for years, and there’s no signs of it wearing out any time soon.

Is there room for one in your toolbox? That’s up to you, but it is definitely one of my problem solvers.
