New AAIA/AASA Report Projects 3.4 Percent Industry Growth Through 2016

The U.S. automotive aftermarket industry is expected to grow 3.4 percent annually through 2016 to $263.8 billion, adding an additional $32.6 billion to the economy. These and additional aftermarket growth figures are contained in a jointly produced Channel Forecast Model sponsored by the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA) and the Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association (AASA).

Individuals may now register to attend the 2013 SEMA Show. The annual trade show, which is open to industry professionals in the automotive specialty equipment market, is set for Tuesday-Friday, November 5-8, 2013, in Las Vegas, Nev.

Automotive Service Association Makes Public Statement Regarding ‘Internal Issues’

The Automotive Service Association (ASA) and its board of directors issued a statement recently reporting that ASA has been the victim of theft committed by a former employee. The individual was terminated with cause earlier this year, according to ASA, and following this discovery, two ASA executives have stepped down.

ASRW Moves To Two Expo Days, Three Education Days

Beginning with the 2013 event, Automotive Service & Repair Week (ASRW) will become a two-day expo, with three days of education. The show floor will be open Thursday, Oct. 17 and Friday, Oct. 18 from 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. daily. The ASRW Conference Program will take place Wednesday, Oct. 16, through Friday, Oct. 18, and the event remains at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas.

The Global Automotive Aftermarket Symposium (GAAS) Scholarship Committee announces that Gates Corporation has pledged to fund 10 $1,000 scholarships for the 2013 GAAS scholarship awards.

Inspection, Maintenance Bill Introduced In Texas

The bill includes provisions requiring that the state inspection and maintenance program must apply to gasoline-powered vehicles between five and 25 years old. This would change the initial inspection from two to five years for passenger cars sold in the state and not previously registered in Texas or another state.
