this is the seal and cover design used on the fg0071 fuel module. this design was made for use in a steel fuel tank.

These vehicle applications could potentially offer three different fuel modules to fit. They are FG0072, FG0052 and FG0071.
The FG0072 fuel module is designed for use on two-door applications. This is easy to identify, so there is little confusion regarding these applications.

The confusion typically surrounds the remaining two fuel modules, FG0052 and FG0071, which both fit four-door applications.

This is the seal and cover design used on the FG0052 fuel module. This design was made for use in a plastic fuel tank.

The catalog indicates that FG0052 fits the four-door Blazer with an 18-gallon fuel tank, while FG0071 fits a four-door Blazer exc. 18-gallon fuel tank. Regardless of the descriptions, mistakes can be made when fuel tank size cannot be determined.

If you are having difficulty determining the tank size, see if the tank is made of plastic or steel. The 18-gallon tank option is made of plastic, using FG0052. The exc. 18-gallon tank option is made of steel, using FG0071.

If you do not know either the fuel tank size or material, you can determine the correct module by examining it once removed from the fuel tank.

The FG0052 fuel module, which is used in the 18-gallon plastic tank, uses a cuff-style seal and cover design as shown in the photo.
By spending minimal time determining the type of fuel tank and/or module used in these applications, you can reduce part returns and increase customer satisfaction.

Making a Living with a Scope

Getting past “scope phobia” can help you make a better living and unlock your potential.

oscilloscope

Even for a lot of great technicians, an oscilloscope, lab scope or just “scope” can be an intimidating piece of equipment. They know it can help to solve some diagnostic dilemmas and change them from a “parts swapper” to a real diagnostician, but sometimes it feels that every time it’s pulled from the toolbox, it is an unproductive exercise and they might be better off just ordering a part and taking a gamble. All technicians know more complex cars with more expensive modules and sensors are coming to shops, so parts swapping is not usually an option. And bumbling around with a tool that you do not understand while working on flat rate can leave you working for free. That’s why getting past “scope phobia” can help you make a better living and unlock your potential.I am going to set my ego aside and tell you about my journey of becoming a technician who feels comfortable with using a scope.Early in my journey, I read magazine articles and took a lot of courses in which trainers evangelized on the power of their scope. It felt like they were using magic when they were able to spot a burnt valve or worn spark plug by just looking at a small section of a waveform. When I tried, I had issues getting the waveform to show up on the screen, or it would look nothing like their waveform. It was frustrating.

Wheel Bearing Adjustment Tools & Equipment

A wheel bearing that’s out of adjustment can reduce bearing life and can affect more than just the bearing. It’s important to adjust the wheel bearing endplay to the proper specifications. If the bearing set is adjusted too loose or too tight, it can cause the bearing to fail prematurely. There are a few types of assemblies, so using correct procedures and tools will ensure a comeback-free wheel bearing installation.
