The charging system and brake light indicators on some 2001-’02 MDX models simultaneously flicker on and off while driving.

Probable Cause:
Electrical noise coming from the cooling fan circuit causes the indicators to momentarily flicker.

Note: This electrical noise does not affect the brake system or the alternator output, or apply to any other alternator problem.

Corrective Action:
Replace the alternator.

Parts Information:
Alternator: P/N 31100-PGK-A03RM

Repair Procedure:
1. Replace the alternator (see page 4-24 of the 2001-’02 MDX Service Manual).

Note: Do not use air tools on the 10 mm lower bolt. It’s very easy to cross-thread the bolt and damage the engine block.

2. Do the idle learn procedure:
• Make sure all electrical items are turned off, then start the engine.
• Let the engine reach its normal operating temperature (the cooling fan cycles twice).
• Let the engine idle (throttle fully closed and with all electrical items off) for 10 minutes.
