The ODYSSEY PortAlyzer battery and electrical system tester from EnerSys enables users to diagnose discharged batteries quickly and precisely without the need to charge them before testing. A patented microload technology allows precision-testing on vehicle battery, starting and charging systems with minimal user interaction.
“The PortAlyzer tester offers a user-friendly solution to testing batteries and electrical systems,” said Dana Kowalski, marketing communication supervisor with EnerSys. “It eliminates operator guesswork and error by providing definitive test results from state-of-charge measurements. Also, the PortAlyzer tester provides precise in-vehicle testing by reducing sensitivity to parasitic drain and resistance at terminal connections.”
Microload technology also enables the PortAlyzer tester to identify bad batteries either individually or in a pack. It also analyzes vehicle starting and charging systems.
The PortAlyzer tester tests flooded lead acid (FLA) and absorbed glass mat (AGM) batteries, individually or in packs in series, parallel or series/parallel. Battery pack configurations, used in algorithmic design, include one 6V or 12V battery; two batteries in series (24V); two, three or four batteries in parallel (12V); and two banks in parallel, each having two batteries in series (24V). Scales are CCA, CA, MCA, A-HR, JIS and DIN, and its high CCA capacity ranges from 50 to 4,000 CCA. Tester-applied loads are used in all pack combinations. Electrical system testing includes 12V and 24V charging and starting systems and diode tests.
The PortAlyzer tester includes step-by-step instructions. Its PC interface port enables field upgrades of flash memory to accommodate new battery types, system updates and feature additions. It features a four-inch-by-20-inch backlit character display that is easy to read in all light conditions and displays up to four lines of data. Its raised, soft-touch keypad is easy to use with gloves and is protected by an over-molded enclosure. The PortAlyzer tester includes 15 feet of removable auto-sensing lead cable for easy movement and testing from the cab of a vehicle.
The PortAlyzer tester is recommended for automotive/LTV and heavy-duty/commercial applications.
