ASA Announces CARS 2006 Dates and Location
The Automotive Service Association (ASA) has announced that the 2006 Congress of Automotive Repair and Service (CARS) will be held Nov. 2-4 at The Mirage in Las Vegas. CARS is sponsored by ASA’s Mechanical Division and is an official event of Automotive Aftermarket Industry Week (AAIW), held annually in Las Vegas.
MACS EXPRESS TRAIN! Convention and Trade Show Sets Record Attendance
More than 2,000 attendees registered and attended MACS EXPRESS TRAIN! convention and trade show which took place Jan. 25-28, 2006 at the Caribe Royale Hotel and Convention Center, Orlando, FL. An all-time record was set for the 26-year-old MACS event.
ASA Announces Dates, Location for 2006 Annual Business Meeting
The Automotive Service Association (ASA) has announced its 2006 annual business meeting will be held April 26-29 at the Driskill Hotel in Austin, TX. Highlighting the agenda will be open meetings of the ASA affiliate assembly and board of directors, as well as an operations committee forum featuring both collision and mechanical committee members.

The Mobile Air Conditioning Society (MACS) Worldwide has launched a new website located at www.macsw.org. It is designed for easy navigation and includes information concerning Section 609 certification, news from the mobile A/C and engine cooling system industry, mobile A/C training, details on upcoming conventions and clinics, a store and a content-rich members-only area and discussion forum.
Rancho Wins Second Straight SEMA “Best in Show” Award
For the second consecutive year, the engineering team at Rancho has captured honors for the best new off-road suspension for a popular light truck or sport utility vehicle model. Rancho’s first-to-market Hummer H3 suspension system was judged “Best New Off-Road/4-Wheel Drive Product” at the 2005 Specialty Equipment Markets Association (SEMA) Show.
MAP Standards Updated for Brake Systems
The Motorist Assurance Program (MAP) has released an update to its Uniform Inspection and Communication Standards (UICS) for brake systems. The condition “Corrosion inhibitors depleted” and the resultant recommendation were added to the Brake Fluid Component. This update is effective immediately and comes recommended by the AMRA/MAP Technical Committee as a result of the ongoing AMRA Maintenance Service Program effort.
ASA Announces New Member Benefit Agreement with Delphi
The Automotive Service Association (ASA) announces a new offering in its membership benefits package. Through an agreement with Delphi Corp., ASA members will be able to choose from a variety of web-based training and educational packages at a preferred rate. The products and services available through Delphi will help ASA members establish career development programs for technicians, provide effective consumer communication tools and offer access to additional repair information options.
MAP Standards Updated for Engine Maintenance and Performance
The Motorist Assurance Program (MAP) has released updates to its Uniform Inspection & Communication Standards (UICS) for Engine Maintenance and Performance. Definitions for chemical engine decarbonization and contaminated oil system service were added to the UICS in the sections covering the affected components.
NASTF Updates OEM Service Information Matrix
The National Automotive Service Task Force (NASTF) announced that the latest update of the NASTF OEM Service Information Matrix went online Oct. 10. This update incorporates revisions since the July 2005 update. All automakers have launched service information websites and are continuing to add content, and are incorporating user feedback to make their sites more user-friendly.
CARS Extends Early-Bird Registration
The deadline to take advantage of "early-bird" registration discounts for the Congress of Automotive Repair and Service (CARS) has been extended to Oct. 25. Depending on registration category, most attendees may save $100 or more off standard registration fees.
