One of our long-time company writers Gary Goms told had been called to a local shop to lend his expertise and tools on a 2012 Chevy Impala with the flex-fuel, 3.6L GDI, or gasoline direct injection engine. There was an intermittent loss of power complaint that the shop couldn’t figure out.
While attempting to diagnose the intermittent loss of power complaint, the shop was focusing on two trouble codes, P00C6 and P228C, and they found a TSB indicating that loose PCM connections can cause a loss of fuel pressure on the GDI engine’s high-pressure fuel rail and set these codes. That’s when they called Gary.
While Gary didn’t have a master testing kit, he did have an inventory of drill sizes and flat connectors that can test the fit and tension on most PCM applications. With his scope, scan tool and pin testers in hand, he ventured down to the shop to test the pin fit of the Impala’s PCM.
