Nupla (www.nuplacorp.com) designed and patented their Smart Hammer Technology in advance of OSHA’s mandate for properly designed ergonomic tools. OSHA studies determined that musculoskeletal disorders caused by repetitive stress are the number one occupational hazard. Hammer rebound, which leads to muscle tension, fatigue and poor work posture of the hand, wrist and arm, is the major contributor to risk of injury. Such recorded disorders result in over 80% of hand, wrist and elbow discomfort and damage. Worker’s compensation claims associated with these hazards cost employers over $15 billion each year. Demanding applications require the safest and most durable tools available. Nupla’s widest selection of high performance, ergonomically designed tools reduce fatigue and risk of injury while maximizing the work accomplished even in the toughest MRO applications.

Nupla’s Smart Hammer Power Drive line represents the finest heavy-duty industrial-grade dead blow hammers in the world. From offshore oil rigs, to aerospace assembly, these hammers are the choice of professionals for the most demanding applications and have been the standard in the industry since their introduction more than 25 years ago. All tools are non marring, surface protective and feature Lifetime Nuplaglas fiberglass handles in combination with a variety of ergonomic grip styles.

Nupla utilize their exclusive Smart Hammer Technology for creating the ultimate dead blow effect. All tool heads feature shot-loaded interior cavities which are encased within a tough injection molded polymer outer jacket. When the hammer is struck, the free flowing inner shot concentrates striking power and increases driving force by 40%. No rebound bounce upon impact transfers full energy of the blow to the object being struck. Smart Hammer Technology virtually eliminates impact vibration, decreases user fatigue and thereby increases efficiency. Non-Sparking versions are available for most Power Drive tools.

The Power Drive tool line using Smart Hammer Technology currently offers 69 Power Drive tools, including non-sparking, in the product catalog. Most tools can be customized, based on lot size requests, to specifications such as variations of grip styles, handle lengths, and replacement faces (tips). Customized logo branding of heads and handles is also available. The tool line consists of Extreme Power Drives, Standard Power Drives, Strike Pro Power Drives, “The Driver” Power Drive, “Thumper” Handleless Hammer Power Drive, Quick-Change Impax Power Drive, Quick-Change Impax Power Drive Sets, and Quick-Change Impax Sledge Power Drives.

Extreme Power Drive Hammers are Nupla’s offering of the ultimate in dead blow striking tools, the first of their kind in the industry. Impact, abrasion and cut resistant Nuplacast faces on these Power Hammers set them apart from all other dead blow hammers. Engineered to provide better performance than rubber, plastic or metal, the 100% cast polyurethane faces are designed to withstand the most severe striking applications. Typical uses are in industries such as automotive, aerospace, metal fabrication, petrochemical applications, electronics, industrial assembly, construction, oil & gas and mining. These surface protective dead blow hammers are available in weights from 16 oz. to 64 oz. (4 lb.)

Power Drive dead blow hammers have been used by professionals for the most demanding applications since their introduction more than 25 years ago and have been the standard in the industry since that time. Available in weights from 8 oz. to 64 oz. (4 lb.) these user-friendly ergonomic hammers are also built on Nupla’s patented Smart Hammer Technology providing maximum striking power and focusing driving force on the struck object while eliminating rebound and vibration. Steel and brass face options are available.

Strike Pro Power Drive dead blow hammers represent the finest in industrial grade dead blow technology in a lighter and more economical configuration. From assembly operations to maintenance and repair, these hammers are the choice of professionals. Hammer heads feature a tough outer polymer jacket molded over a composite interior shot-loaded cavity with built-in striking faces. The specially formulated striking face material provides extreme surface protection and durability. These lightweight hammers are available in 16 and 24 oz. sizes in high visibility yellow or orange.

Quick-Change and Impax Quick Change dead blow hammers are truly versatile in their offering. There is a correct and proper Quick-Change hammer for virtually any job. While performing the same as Power Drive dead blow hammers using Smart Hammer Technology, these hammers offer an additional feature of replaceable, interchangeable striking faces (tips) in seven hardnesses ranging from super soft to extra hard, plus brass and steel. Hammer head construction consists of a protective polymer jacket molded over an inner composite cannister which concentrates weight of the free flowing shot to create a super dead blow effect. Hammer weights range from 12 oz. to 96 oz. (6 lb.) with striking face diameters from 1” to 3”. Further versatility is added with handle length and grip options. Sets of Quick-Change Impax hammers are also available in the 1 lb. version, complete with six or eight selected 1.5” striking faces in durable molded carrying cases.

Quick-Change Impax dead blow sledge hammers further extend the Power Drive line by offering Smart Hammer Technology in 16 and 20 lb. sledge versions, perfect for the toughest applications requiring heavier weights in a dead blow application combined with 4” face diameter non marring, interchangeable striking faces in six hardnesses from soft to extra hard.

“Thumper” Handleless Power Drive Hammers are unique in the industry. These handleless hammers have a multitude of uses. Available in blister pack or 12-piece counter display in 10 and 14 oz. sizes they are ideal for use in restricted spaces with Power Drive dead blow efficiency. The ergonomically shaped Thumper bodies made of a specially engineered material provide a comfortable, firm grip. The striking face on one side is made of a specially formulated material, which provides extreme surface protection and durability. The other side has a steel striking face for special applications. Fit easily in drawers, tool kits and tool belts. Can be used for automotive, woodworking, leather working, upholstery, carpentry, sheet metal working, seal and gasket assembly, hobbies and crafts, repair work such as electrical, jewelry, luggage, plumbing, appliance, air conditioning and heating.

The “Driver” Power Drive All Purpose “Drive-Thru” Tool is a time and effort saving device. Made of tough Nuplaglas fiberglass, the handle “Driver” – with the use of a proper driving force such as a Nupla Extreme Power Drive hammer – can drive pins, rods, pistons and also be used to move objects with ease. Specially designed grip adds comfort to this multi-use tool.

Nuplaflex Replaceable, Interchangeable Faces (tips) have the widest selection in the industry from super soft to extra hard. Available in face diameters from 1” to 4” in seven different hardnesses. Brass and steel face options plus unique dome and wedge shaped faces are available in the 1.5” and 2” versions. Made of specially formulated material and rigorously tested, Nuplaflex tips are designed to have the toughness and resilience to outperform and outlast any other soft face tips as well as traditional surface protective materials such as lead, copper, brass, wood, rubber, rawhide, cellulose, micarta, etc.

When properly installed on a Nupla hammer and correctly used for the application intended, the tips will not mushroom, chip or leave any toxic residues. Proper tip selection will eliminate marring of virtually any surface being struck since the tips have no grain or texture and will not pick up and transfer dirt or chips to the struck surface. Nupla tips are resistant to gasoline and most industrial chemicals and are extremely resistant to abrasion. They are ideal for reducing production damage and rework. They also help to reduce fatigue from rebound, sting and vibration. Tool inventories and related costs are reduced since tip replaceability limits wear and tear to a replaceable item, not the complete tool.
