Snap-on Diagnostics (www.diagnostics.snapon.com) announced recently the availability of Software Bundle 8.2. The latest software upgrade delivers more new Scanner coverage than ever before for MODIS, SOLUS PRO, SOLUS, ETHOS and the MT-Series Scanner. Snap-on has also added 820 new vehicles and access to 7,000 new systems since the last software release.

“Snap-on has been keeping technicians up-to-date with the latest computerized vehicle technology for two decades,” said Gerry Beronja, director, Global Marketing – Snap-on Diagnostics. “No other brand of scan tool has helped the automotive industry diagnose more dash warning lights, reduce more harmful emissions or get more vehicle owners down the road fast and happy.”

With the 8.2 upgrade, technicians have 2007 model year vehicle-communications coverage for the major OEMs, including GM, Ford, Chrysler, Toyota, Nissan, Isuzu and Subaru – all new domestic and Asian coverage in the same bundle release. Powerful new tests, codes, data and information have been added for vehicles back to 1998.

Bundle 8.2 empowers technicians to service Fords like never before; 2007 model year coverage for applicable models includes many new systems such as single and dual zone electronic auto temperature controls systems, air suspension, driver’s door module, driver’s seat module, lighting control module, navigation module, occupant classification module, the parking aid module, power sliding door modules and the power running board module.

Chrysler enhancements include the ETC throttle follower test – an adaptive relearn procedure for HEMI-equipped Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep vehicles.

With Software Bundle 8.2, technicians can add diagnostics for the Dodge Sprinter to their Snap-on diagnostic tool. With the optional keys and adapter, Bundle 8.2 delivers engine, transmission, gear selector, ABS and airbag capabilities for this increasingly popular commercial vehicle.

Technicians asked for service bay tests for evaporative emissions systems and Snap-on Diagnostics listened. Bundle 8.2 takes the evaporative emissions testing capabilities to a new level. Perform the “seal and purge test” on GM EVAP systems on vehicles with class 2 communications all the way back to 1998. Technicians can use this test in conjunction with their smoke machine and watch their EVAP profits increase dramatically.

Additional EVAP tests include EVAP monitor tests for 2001-2005 Chrysler Status and Sebring models, EVAP testing for 2002-2006 Honda Accord, automated EVAP testing for 2001-2006 non-CAN Hyundai vehicles and EVAP tests for Mitsubishi CAN vehicles through 2006. EVAP codes are the most common and Bundle 8.2 delivers a wealth of new capabilities to help clear the codes and keep them from coming back.

With enhanced Asian vehicle coverage, technicians can service Mazda customers better than ever before. Bundle 8.2 contains coverage for automatic temperature control on 2004-2006 Mazda 3, electronic power steering module on 2004-2006 RX8 and more coverage for ABS systems.

Nissan and Infiniti additions include the all-important steering angle sensor reset functional test for DDL2 ABS systems.

Software Bundle 8.2 includes thousands of Troubleshooter upgrades for MODIS, SOLUS and SOLUS PRO users. There are new tests and tips for many 2006 vehicles. Snap-on Diagnostics has added or enhanced more than 72,000 Troubleshooter tests, which apply to more than 9 million unique vehicle configurations.

For 2006 vehicles, technicians will find a new Troubleshooter menu designed for speed and ease of use. “Time Savers” and “Common Problems” are two new categories of experienced-based information that technicians will find extremely useful. For the first time, Snap-on Diagnostics has added Fast-Track Troubleshooter coverage for body and airbag systems.

For MODIS users, Snap-on Diagnostics has added or enhanced nearly 9,000 pinpoint component tests. Technicians can use the lab scope, digital and power graphing meter tests to confirm which part is the problem before calling the parts house. New tests include coverage for fly-by-wire throttle control systems.

Beronja concluded, “Keeping the diagnostic tools that technicians use everyday up-to-date is critical. Without the latest vehicle coverage, they simply cannot service as many vehicles. By upgrading to Software Bundle 8.2 today, they will be more prepared than ever for what comes into their bay tomorrow.”
