Stant’s 12300 Mechanical Fuel Cap Tester System identifies fuel caps that are not in compliance with EPA standards. With the new I/M 240 emissions testing expected to affect more than 50 percent of all vehicles, fuel cap testing will become very important in the years to come. The tester system’s easy-to-read pass/fail gauge makes fuel cap testing simple to perform. And this compact, lightweight, repair grade tester comes with nine fuel cap adaptors to ensure maximum vehicle coverage.
The 12300 mechanical fuel cap tester can be used by automotive repair or retail outlets to pre-qualify consumers’ fuel caps prior to their trip to the state test lanes. The 12300 provides repair facilities with an economical alternative to the electronic testers. The 12300 kit includes the tester unit including the standard threaded adaptor packed inside its own plastic carrying case, two tester calibration caps to check the tester’s accuracy, and nine fuel cap adapators for various neck configurations in their own plastic carrying case.
The 12300 tester uses the flow comparison method of testing. The leak rate of the cap is compared to a pre-determined leak rate in the tester.
