MACS Offers Two New Training Clinics

The training of technicians in the proper service and repair of mobile air conditioning systems is at the heart of the Mobile Air Conditioning Society’s (MACS) Worldwide mission. MACS offers two new training clinic curriculums for 2011; Mobile A/C System Temperature Testing and the 2011 Mobile A/C Update Clinic.

Tech Tip: Mazda MPV Temperature Difference Between Dash Vents

On some vehicles, the output air temperature may differ between the two center dash air vents (vents on either side of audio system). This condition usually occurs when the HVAC settings are in the following positions: A/C switch ON, in BI-LEVEL or VENT mode, Temperature Control Dial in 1 o’clock to 3 o’clock position (set for warm air).

Tech Tip: Toyota A/C Compressor Won’t Come On

On certain 2003 Toyota Celica GT 1.8L, Vin R, and Corolla 1.8L, Vin R vehicles, the air conditioning compressor won’t work. The likely cause is the computer, harness, magnetic clutch relay or thermistor.

Tech Tip: BMW Blower Motor Issues

Owners of 2000-’03 BMW 525I 2.5 may complain that the blower motor does not work, stays running all the time or does not have proper speed control. The climate control blower motor is controlled by a final stage unit, which receives variable voltage from the climate control head. To fix, disconnect the final stage unit, which is located beneath the passenger side of the dash and installed near the firewall into the lower side of the heater box.

Tech Tip: Engine and A/C Performance Issues on Infiniti QX56 Models

Some Infiniti QX56 owners may complain about the engine or poor performance from their air conditioner. You may find there one or more conditions that are causing the issues.

Volkswagen Tech Tip: Air Conditioning Not Operating Properly

For all Volkswagen models (2000-2004), check the N25 A/C clutch coil after a routine pressure diagnosis. The fan control module may be sending a brief voltage signal to the clutch and shutting it off because of an open or high resistance in the coil circuit.

Tech Tip: Mercedes-Benz A/C Off Light Illuminated, A/C Not Functioning

If you receive customer reports in the above models that the A/C Off light is illuminated and cannot be switched off and the air conditioning is not functional, the Refrigerant Level Temperature Pressure Sensor coding in the AAC unit may need to be set to “INACTIVE.” Follow the below procedure to remedy a specification parameter in the refrigerant level logic circuit.

Registration is Now Open for Mobile Air Conditioning Society (MACS) Convention and Trade Show

Registration is now open for MACS-I-MIZE YOUR OPPORTUNITIES for SUCCESS, the 31st annual Mobile Air Conditioning Society (MACS) convention and trade show. 2011 has brought together an exciting collaboration between MACS and long-time training partner Automotive Video Inc. (AVI). Training is pricelessly valuable, but the training at this convention is priced at an amazing value.

Directions: GM Leads the Industry in the Race for a Greener Refrigerant

The switch to HFO-1234yf is expected to help GM vehicles meet the overall requirements of the U.S. EPA’s latest motor vehicle greenhouse gas regulations.

Seven Service Facilities Complete Climate Protection Pledge

The Climate Protection Partnership division of the U.S. EPA and the Mobile Air Conditioning Society (MACS) Worldwide recognize seven mobile air conditioning service facilities for being among the first to complete all the steps of the Climate Protection Pledge.

Tech Tip: Sealing Pipe Connections on Porsche Expansion Valve

Under certain circumstances, refrigerant loss from the area of the expansion valve pipe connections can be misdiagnosed as a defective expansion valve. As of production date October 1993, a longer bolt has been used in the installation of the A/C lines to the expansion valve. The new bolt is installed as a precaution to prevent the expansion valve from distorting, which could cause a leak at the pipe connections on the expansion valve.

Tech Tip: J2788 Test Equipment Needed to Diagnose and Recharge Today’s A/C Units

In order to remove all the refrigerant from later-model vehicles during the recovery process, a J2788-compliant A/C machine is required. This is due to later-model vehicles using less refrigerant, which older A/C machines cannot fully recover, leading to potential problems.
