Todd Parrott, Crew Chief For No. 43 Smithfield Ford, Wins MOOG ‘Problem Solver’ Award At New Hampshire

Todd Parrott, crew chief for the No. 43 Smithfield Ford Fusion driven by Aric Almirola, won Federal-Mogul’s MOOG Steering and Suspension “Problem Solver of the Race” Award in Sunday’s Camping World RV Sales 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway after helping Almirola overcome tight handling to post his first top-five finish of the season.

Diagnosing Air Ride Systems

Air ride diagnostics is more than a spray bottle of soapy water. On today’s late-model vehicles, it requires a scan tool, meter and scope. Swapping components will only lead you down a diagnostic black hole that leads to an angry customer and parts supplier. Modern air ride systems have a compressor and a module to control the flow of air to the struts or shocks. Control modules can have as many as 10 valves. They can also have three or more sensors to measure the pressure.

Kevin Harvick pushed NASCAR Sprint Cup points leader Jimmie Johnson to the limit but failed to get the help he needed in the closing laps to win Saturday night’s Coke Zero 400 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. Despite finishing third, the No. 29 Budweiser Chevrolet SS team didn’t come away empty handed, as crew chief Gil Martin picked up his first MOOG Steering and Suspension “Problem Solver of the Race” Award after the 29 car posted the best second-half improvement (0.219 seconds) in average lap time while finishing on the lead lap.
