Responding to demand for Miller quality in passive (non-auto-darkening) helmet technology, Miller Electric Mfg. Co. recently introduced its MP-10 line of welding helmets. MP-10 stands for Miller Passive-shade #10 filter, which is a standard shade for general welding applications.
The new helmet is available in the best-selling “Inferno” graphic design (suggested list price of $63) or a basic black design (suggested list price of $33). Many welders prefer a plain black helmet so they can customize it with their own stickers and graffiti.
The MP-10 helmet uses the same shell as Miller’s Elite Series auto-darkening helmets, but uses a passive lens. The MP-10, which weighs only 18 oz., features a large 16 sq.-in. viewing area, excellent skin coverage and a magnifying lens holder for “cheater” lenses, which can provide a better view of the weld puddle. An optional hardhat adapter is also available.
“Common parts and shell design between the MP-10 and the Elite series lets customers start with an MP-10 helmet, with the option to upgrade to auto-darkening technology by purchasing a Miller lens,” says Tom Sommers, product manager, Miller Electric Mfg. Co. “Further, because the MP-10 uses industry standard 4.5- x 5.25-in. filter plates, users can purchase different shades, such as #9, #11, #12 or #13, from their welding supply distributor.”
