Lincoln Electric has updated its VIKING auto-darkening helmet line with two new series of helmets – the 1840 series featuring a 1.8 in. viewing area height in a compact DINS-sized lens cartridge and the 2450 series featuring a 2.4 in. viewing area height in a U.S. standard 4.5 in. x 5.25 in. sized lens cartridge.
The 1840 features externally-controlled continuously variable 9 -13 shade control for quick changes without helmet removal. The 2450 series features a protected internal continuously variable 9 -13 shade control. Variable sensitivity and variable delay allows the user to adjust the time required to bring the helmet from a darkened view back to the light state. Both helmets also include an integrated grind control, which fixes the lens shade at 3.5 in. to allow the user to wear the helmet as a grinding shield.
Both series are solar-powered, with the 2450 series featuring user replaceable batteries. In addition, all VIKING helmets include extra inside and outside cover lenses, a bandana and a sport-pak style helmet bag. All VIKING helmets also are magnifying cheater lens and hard hat adapter capable.
These helmets are lighter in weight than many auto-darkening helmets. The compact 1840 series weighs in at 19.5 oz. (552 g) and the 2450 series at 21 oz. (602 g). The 1840 series cartridge has a TIG amp rating of five amps and uses two arc sensors for switching from light to dark, while the 2450 series cartridge has low TIG amp ratings of three amps DC and five amps AC, and features four arc sensors. All VIKING helmets meet ANSI Z87.1, CAN/CSA Z94.3 and CE Certifications.
Lincoln Electric’s 1840 series is available in a choice of standard black or four graphic styles, including new Amp Angel specifically designed toward female welders. The 2450 series is offered in standard black and four graphic styles, including new Street Rod. Both the 1840 and 2450 black helmets include a decal sheet, allowing the user to customize their helmet with flags, logos or letter characters.
