Janis Wins NHRA Pro Mod Race On Goodyear’s D2922

Track conditions at Englishtown were difficult. The track temperature reached 134 degrees during the weekend, making grip an elusive commodity. But Janis made consistently smooth runs.

Drag racer Mike Janis was struggling with his NHRA Pro Mod race car. In drag racing parlance, the car couldn’t get down the race track.

Earlier this season, Janis found a solution, the same solution drag racers have been finding for half a century and is available in all corners of the drag racing world.

He switched to Goodyear tires, specifically Goodyear’s D2922.

“We started using them the beginning of the year,” Janis grinned after winning at the NHRA Summer Nationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park Sunday. “It turned the whole program around as soon as we bolted them on.”

His win at Englishtown was the first ever in NHRA competition for Janis.

The D2922 measures 34.5 inches tall and 17 inches across the face of the tread. It has a 109-inch circumference, includes Goodyear’s D2F tread compound and mounts on a 16-inch wheel. For Janis, the Goodyear offering has been a game-changer.

“All we were doing was shaking, shaking with our old combination that we’d run for years,” Janis said. “Bolted these tires on, did nothing else, and the car has gone down the track 99 percent of the time.”

Janis said his car has untapped potential, now that he races with Eagles.

“We still don’t know how much power these tires can take,” he said.

As he adds power to his engine, clutch and chassis package, Janis would like to take home more trophies. Why not? Anything is possible when you race with Eagles.
