John Sawatsky, owner of MSJ Automotive Services Ltd. in Windsor, Ontario, has been named the 2006 CARQUEST Excellence Award winner. The CARQUEST Excellence Award seeks to recognize the top independent automobile service business in North America that exemplifies professionalism.

The CARQUEST Excellence Award seeks to recognize the top independent automobile service business in North America that, through the course of everyday service excellence, exemplifies the professionalism necessary to build public understanding and respect for people working in the auto service industry today.

"It is a great honor for MSJ Auto to be the first Canadian winner of the CARQUEST Excellence Award," says Sawatsky, who was presented the award Oct. 6 at the CARQUEST National Technicians Advisory Council meeting in Orlando, FL. "The dedication by our entire staff to the customer’s experience is what makes our business successful and each one of my employees deserves this honor."

Sawatsky and his wife Cathy founded MSJ Automotive Services Ltd. in 1989, naming it after their three daughters, Melissa, Stefanie and Jaclyn. The 9,000-square-foot repair facility employs seven technicians and three apprentices that have more than 117 years of experience among them. It is one of only 11 repair facilities in Canada that has earned the ASE Blue Seal, and it is a member of the TECH-NET Professional Auto Service program. Spring is the perfect time for motorists to make sure their vehicles are running reliably after a rough winter and before the summer driving season begins. Many independent repair shops and community organizations throughout the country will conduct car care events during April. These events have revealed that three out of four vehicles inspected are in need of some type of maintenance or repair.
The non-profit Car Care Council offers many free tools on its website to help consumers drive smart, save money and be more environmentally friendly, including the popular 60-page Car Care Guide and a custom service schedule and email reminder service.
“By following a service schedule and performing preventative vehicle maintenance, motorists can ensure that their vehicles are safe and dependable. Plus, auto care can help save money in many ways, including reducing fuel consumption and extending vehicle life,” continued White. “We encourage all car owners across the country to get their vehicles inspected this April.”
