From Tire Review

Recently, a joint committee in the Massachusetts legislature heard testimony on a proposed tire aging bill. The bill would make it illegal for passenger vehicles to have tires more than six years old.

In addition, the bill would amend the state’s vehicle emissions testing requirements to include safety testing of most vehicle components. If passed, safety testing would include tires, brakes, steering, suspension, exhaust systems, lights and seat belts.

According to the bill, any passenger vehicle or light truck mounted with a tire older than six years of age, according to its tire identification number, would automatically fail the safety inspection. This includes full-service spares.

The bill, H.B. No. 3016, was introduced in January last year. Several associations, including the Tire Industry Association, the Rubber Manufacturers Association and the New England Tire & Service Association, oppose the bill.
