Electronic Specialties introduces the #191 Relay Buddy Pro
Test Kit, which includes five newly developed relay adapters and the tester in
a blow-mold case. Three of the adapters make testing of shielded relays
possible. The other two adapters permit testing of two new relay types commonly
used on fuel pumps and other powered devices.
Soon after introducing Relay Buddy, there were numerous
requests for these adapters, this is a result of user and dealer feedback.
Here is the test process: the adapter plugs into Relay Buddy first,
then the relay plugs into the adapter. For those who wish to upgrade their existing Relay Buddy, the adapters
will be available separately as well.
Relay
Buddy provides an indication of the general health and functioning of the most
common 4/5 pin relays, and
checks the control side of the relay by applying
a signal to the relay coil while it checks for proper functioning of the relay
contacts.
Relay Buddy cycles the relay several times while
loading the contacts to detect any excessive resistance. It watches for consistency in every test
cycle. Relay Buddy will fail the relay
and illuminate the red LED if any one of the cycles proves unsuccessful during
the test session.
It uses the vehicle’s 12V battery for its power
source.
The test process is rather
simple. Just remove the relay from the
vehicle, plug it into the relay buddy and press the “test” button.
Test results are displayed as:
- Green
Light if relay is good
- Red Light if relay is bad
