Goodyear launched its newest Wrangler tire, the All-Terrain Adventure with Kevlar, at a media and dealer event recently in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The light truck and SUV tire is designed for drivers who need both on- and off-road performance from their tires, the tiremaker said, adding that one major draw for consumers is Kevlar. Goodyear said it is the only manufacturer allowed to use the word Kevlar in its marketing.

“People say ‘Wow you have Kevlar,’ and it helps us promote the ruggedness and durability of the product. So, that helps catch their eye and lets us talk about it,” said Marc Nowacki, technical project manager for LT and SUV at Goodyear.

The New Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure features open shoulder blocks in the tread to clear rocks, snow and mud, enhancing off-road traction. Special biting edges and rubber compound also assist with traction on wet and icy roads, the tiremaker said. Goodyear’s Durawall Technology and a layer of Kevlar contribute to the toughness and durability of the tire.

Dealers and media had the chance to compare the new Wrangler to a competing tire on a wet-dry track during the launch.

Goodyear said the tire offers 20% more tread life than its other tires; standard load and LT sizes carry a 60,000-mile tread life warranty. The All-Terrain Adventure will be offered in 44 total sizes, both LT and P-metric, including 20 sizes with designated “pro-grade” fitments. These Load Range E tires feature two layers of Kevlar and heavy-duty steel belts, with 30% more steel, and are for three-quarter or one-ton light trucks. The tires are equipped with an enhanced tread compound that resists chipping or chunking. Additionally, “pro grade” tires feature the severe snow conditions symbol, making it true a four-season tire, Goodyear said.

Many tire sizes already have shipped, Goodyear said, adding that the full 44-size lineup will be available by September.

The company plans to launch television spots in support of the Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure this fall. Goodyear hinted that the tire, which has been made as an OE fitment, might be featured on new models next year.
